Of course, you are all welcome to arrive early and/or stay late and explore the wonderful city of York and its surrounds.
Travel
AIR
York does not have a convenient airport. Those of you flying in will probably land at one of the London airports or Manchester.
RAIL
From Manchester Airport you can catch a train direct to York (about 1.5 hours). From London, once again the best option is to catch a train from London Kings Cross (about 2 hours). York Rail Station is a short walk from the town centre. Or give Phill or Nicky a call; we might be able to greet you at the station and give you a lift.
ROAD
York is quite compact and a lot of the centre is pedestrianised. If your accommodation is in or near the centre you won’t need a car. If you do bring/hire a car parking areas are dotted around.
TAXI
The main taxi rank can be found at the station. The fare for a ride from the station to somewhere within York should cost around £10 to £20.
BUS
York has a good bus network covering the city. A day ticket costs approx £2.50 and can be bought on the bus using a bank card, Apple pay etc.

CONTACT DETAILS
Please let Phill and Nicky know when you arrive, by email to philljenkins@me.com or by phoning 0759 5253549.
WHATS APP
We have set up a WhatsApp group for BFR4 to make it easier to stay in touch with each other, share news and meet up when we’re travelling or out and about in York. Click this link to join.
MONEY
These days, especially following the Covid pandemic, most transactions in the UK are cashless. Most shops, restaurants, pubs, buses, taxis, and even street traders, will accept ‘contactless’ payment, either by passing your bank card over a reader or using Apple Pay via your iPhone or Apple Watch. The limit for a contactless transaction is £100. For larger transactions, simply slide your card into the reader and enter your PIN. It is still wise though to have a few notes and coins in your wallet, just in case.
